“Sisters Reunited After 50 Years Through Facebook”

Updates"Sisters Reunited After 50 Years Through Facebook"

Two sisters, Theresa Fazzani, 59, and Janet Brocklhurst, 57, who were separated as children when their father brutally murdered their mother with a hammer, have finally reunited after 50 years. They managed to find each other through the use of a social media platform, Facebook.

The tragic incident occurred in December 1973 when the sisters, aged eight and five at the time, discovered their mother, Helen Barnes, dead in their home in Newport, Wales. Their father, Malcolm Barnes, initially deceived them by claiming she was asleep before taking them on a five-day journey to John O’Groats. Five days later, he confessed to the murder and received a life sentence, serving only nine years.

Theresa and Janet were separated after Theresa learned that Malcolm was not her biological father, leading her to live with her biological father while Janet and the younger siblings were adopted.

After more than five decades of no contact, Theresa, a mental health counselor, decided to search for her sisters through a Facebook group dedicated to reuniting families. Within 48 hours, the group successfully located Janet and facilitated an emotional reunion. Since reconnecting, the sisters have been actively involved in each other’s lives, visiting each other’s homes and maintaining regular communication.

Reflecting on their past, Theresa shared her memories of the tragic event that separated them, expressing her confusion and fear as a young child. She mentioned the challenges of growing up without her sisters and the emotional barriers that prevented her from reaching out to them earlier.

Both sisters had contemplated contacting each other over the years but were hindered by anxiety and guilt. Janet, acknowledging the burden of her father’s actions, had attempted to find Theresa previously but hesitated due to fear of rejection.

Despite the challenges they faced growing up apart, the sisters expressed gratitude for their reunion and the opportunity to piece together their shared history. They highlighted the emotional significance of reconnecting and described the experience as reattaching a missing part of themselves.
