An XL Bully viciously attacked a man in a disturbing incident at his friend’s residence, resulting in severe facial injuries.
Law enforcement responded to the property in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, on August 14 around 5:45 pm following the assault by the dog on its owner, Beverley Anderson, and a companion. The man was discovered in the kitchen with significant wounds to his face and hands, while Anderson sustained minor injuries to her arms.
The dog was located in the backyard and tranquilized by authorities before being relocated to secure kennels. Nottinghamshire Police stated that the man required medical attention for deep bites on both arms, a torn eyelid, and other facial wounds.
While the victim did not wish to press charges, an investigation was initiated by officers. Anderson was charged as the owner of a dangerously out-of-control dog that caused harm, as reported by Nottinghamshire Live. Following a guilty plea, the 62-year-old was sentenced at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court, receiving a 10-year ban on dog ownership and a 12-month suspended prison term.
Nottinghamshire Police’s Police Constable Mark Jennings expressed gratitude to the community for their assistance in the investigation of the incident, which raised concerns about the safety of Anderson’s dogs in the neighborhood. Despite the victim’s reluctance to prosecute, a thorough inquiry was conducted due to broader community apprehensions.
Officers who responded to the scene were praised for administering first aid and effectively securing the dog to prevent further harm. Since January last year, possessing an XL Bully without a Certificate of Exemption has been illegal, with regulations mandating leash and muzzle use in public areas and secure containment at home.
In August, the RSPCA cautioned that the ban on XL Bullies was ineffective, as severe attacks persisted despite authorities seizing numerous suspected banned dogs. According to recent data obtained from UK police forces by the charity, hundreds of dogs have been euthanized under the legislation.
