“Wetherspoon to Open New University Pub at Birmingham”

Business"Wetherspoon to Open New University Pub at Birmingham"

Wetherspoon has revealed intentions to launch a new pub at a university campus.

The popular pub chain will oversee Joe’s at the University of Birmingham in a collaborative effort. Named after the university’s renowned clock tower, Joe’s will remain under the management of the Guild of Students.

Expected to open in Easter 2026 after thorough renovations, the new establishment will showcase the full range of Wetherspoon’s food and beverage offerings, including special weekly promotions like the Thursday Curry Club.

With nearly 800 pubs nationwide, Wetherspoon inaugurated its first university pub at Hull University back in 2022.

John Hutson, Wetherspoon’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with the Guild of Students to establish Joe’s Bar successfully.

The President of the University of Birmingham Guild of Students, Antonia Listrat, highlighted the advantages for students through this collaboration, emphasizing the value-for-money food and drinks available at Joe’s Bar and the increased employment opportunities it will bring.

This partnership is anticipated to enhance the commercial efforts of the Guild, supporting a dynamic future and enriching the student experience.

Wetherspoon is set to unveil an additional six new pubs by mid-January, with a detailed list forthcoming.

These developments follow the recent launch of Wetherspoon’s Christmas menu, featuring the return of the budget-friendly turkey dinner.

The festive feast comprises turkey breast slices, pork, sage and onion stuffing, roasted carrots and parsnips, mashed potatoes, pigs-in-blankets, peas, cranberry sauce, and gravy.

Priced at an average of £13.99 with a soft drink or £15.52 with an alcoholic beverage, the menu varies in cost based on location. This marks a slight increase from last year’s prices of £11.99 with a soft drink or £13.52 with an alcoholic drink.

The Christmas menu will be accessible until December 31.

Despite reporting increased sales and profits, Tim Martin, Wetherspoon’s chairman, affirmed the company’s commitment to minimizing price hikes. While acknowledging the impact of rising taxes on the industry, Martin emphasized Wetherspoon’s efforts to mitigate price adjustments.
