Virgin Media is set to upgrade some of its broadband customers to a more advanced technology for faster and more reliable internet connections. The upgrade will target users currently using older Hub 3 and Hub 4 routers, replacing them with the newer Hub 5, which features enhanced Wi-Fi 6 technology.
Customers eligible for the upgrade will be notified via email in the upcoming weeks and months as the rollout progresses throughout 2026. The Hub 5, equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas, aims to provide stronger and more consistent coverage within homes.
Virgin Media advises customers not to take any action until they receive direct communication about the upgrade. Eligibility can also be checked by logging into the My Virgin Media account online.
Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can significantly enhance the broadband experience by offering wider Wi-Fi coverage, improved stability, and support for future updates. The new router is optimized for faster Gig1 speeds, leading to quicker downloads and streaming performance. Gig1 speeds enable users to download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, more than ten times faster than the UK average.
Wi-Fi 6, the latest wireless networking technology, provides faster speeds, increased efficiency, and better performance in busy environments. It can accommodate multiple connected devices simultaneously, delivering superior performance across both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Wi-Fi 6 is also energy-efficient, making it ideal for modern smart homes with high data demands.
For a more advanced option, homes can now access Wi-Fi 7 technology, but Wi-Fi 6 remains ideal for the average user.
