As the demand for fast and reliable internet access grows with the increasing use of connected devices and online content streaming, the quality of broadband service from different providers varies. According to SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, Virgin Media leads the UK in average download speeds at an impressive 256.5Mbps, enabling the download of a full HD movie in just over two minutes, significantly faster than the national average.
Following Virgin Media, Vodafone ranks second with average download speeds of 175Mbps, while BT (EE) takes the third spot. TalkTalk lags behind with an average speed of approximately 95Mbps.
In terms of average download speeds in the UK:
– Virgin Media: 256.5Mbps
– Vodafone: 175.1Mbps
– BT (EE): 122.5Mbps
– Sky Broadband: 113.6Mbps
– TalkTalk: 94.7Mbps
Upload speeds were also analyzed by SpeedGo, with Vodafone leading the category at 83.6Mbps, surpassing Virgin Media at 47.2Mbps in second place.
SpeedGo reaffirmed these results, stating, “Virgin Media provided the fastest broadband internet in the United Kingdom in 2025, with an average download speed of 256.5Mbps. Vodafone achieved the highest average upload speed at 83.6Mbps.”
