Analyzed data from January to September by Aviation experts at AirAdvisor has revealed the airline that performed the least reliably for UK travelers in 2025, surprising many. According to recent statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), TUI emerged as the most unreliable airline regarding punctuality, with only 57.5 percent of its flights departing on time. In contrast, a lesser-known carrier shared the top spot with Virgin Atlantic for the most reliable performance, achieving an on-time rate of 81 percent.
TUI has been labeled the worst airline for flight delays in the UK based on its poor average performance in 2025. Blue Airlines, which is no longer operational, closely followed TUI in terms of tardiness, recording an on-time rating of under 60 percent. Swiss Airlines performed slightly better with around 64 percent of its flights being punctual during the same year.
The top three airlines for punctuality in 2025 were British Airways, Wizz Air, Emerald Airlines, Lufthansa, and United Airlines; Emirates; and Loganair and Virgin Atlantic. Virgin Atlantic and Loganair jointly led with 81 percent of their flights departing on time, while the overall average on-time performance for all carriers stood at 72 percent during the same period.
AirAdvisor’s study focused on the 20 airlines with the highest passenger traffic at UK airports each quarter, monitoring flight delays based on CAA records. According to CAA guidelines, a flight is considered “on-time” if it arrives or departs within 15 minutes of its scheduled time.
Anton Radchenko, AirAdvisor’s CEO, highlighted that various factors influence an airline’s punctuality, and past performance is a crucial indicator of future reliability. Notably, TUI’s performance in the third quarter, historically poor due to summer travel, has shown slight improvement but still lags behind Virgin Atlantic and Loganair.
Despite overall improvements in flight delays and cancellations, passengers experiencing disruptions may be eligible for compensation under UK government regulations. The ranking of airlines based on average punctuality from January to September 2025 reveals TUI as the least punctual, followed by Blue Islands, Swiss Airlines, KLM, Jet2, Ryanair, Air France, easyJet, American Airlines, Vueling, Eurowings, Aer Lingus, British Airways, Wizz Air, Emerald Airlines, Lufthansa, United Airlines, Emirates, and Loganair and Virgin Atlantic.
