Tesco to Give Away Wonky Christmas Trees

BusinessTesco to Give Away Wonky Christmas Trees

Tesco is set to distribute numerous free Christmas trees for a single day only. These “wonky” trees, typically not up for sale due to minor flaws like uneven branches or slight tilting, will be given away on Saturday, December 6, at selected Tesco stores. The supermarket encourages recipients to consider making donations to the food charities Fareshare and Trussell.

The giveaway will take place at various Tesco locations including Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, Goole Superstore, Glossop Superstore, Bristol Brislington Extra, Cardiff Extra, Dundee Riverside Extra, and Glasgow Maryhill Extra. Starting at 10 am, the trees will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to one tree per household. In comparison, the least expensive Christmas trees elsewhere are priced at £13.99 from Aldi and £14.99 from Home Bargains.

Ashwin Prasad, Tesco’s UK CEO, emphasized the importance of finding joy in imperfect moments, such as these slightly flawed Christmas trees. A recent Tesco survey revealed that 24% of Britons typically put up their Christmas tree on the second weekend of December. The survey also found that 87% of respondents believe that Christmas does not have to be flawless to be special, with 74% stating that imperfect moments contribute to the true essence of the holiday season.

In addition to the tree giveaway, Tesco is offering Clubcard members double points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December, applicable to third-party gift cards as well. This promotion extends to all Tesco stores and automatically awards double points to Clubcard accounts. With approximately 24 million Clubcard members, Tesco offers various ways to earn points, including grocery purchases, fuel expenditures, Tesco Mobile payments, Tesco credit card spending, and Tesco Clubcard Pay+ debit card transactions. A minimum of 150 points is required to receive a Clubcard voucher worth £1.50 for Tesco purchases.
