A police detainment of a teenage girl has occurred due to suspicions of poisoning meals prepared for her parents and cousin after being forbidden from meeting a boyfriend. The 17-year-old confessed to adding a harmful substance referred to as chumbinho to three meals made by her mother in Nova Serrana, Brazil, on January 7. The toxic substance, usually used for rodent control, was meant for her 35-year-old mother, 41-year-old father, and 36-year-old cousin, as per the Military Police in the country.
Allegedly, the girl engaged in this act following an altercation with her parents. Major Renato Geraldo da Silva, a Military Police spokesperson, mentioned that the family disapproved of her romantic relationship, leading her to contaminate the meals prepared for her family members.
The girl’s cousin began eating one of the poisoned meals but noticed an unfamiliar texture, prompting him to cease consumption and alert his uncle. The uncle then notified the girl’s parents, who refrained from eating the contaminated food. The cousin sought medical aid, underwent gastric lavage, and is presently in stable condition under observation.
The teenager explained to authorities that she acted in anger due to her parents’ disapproval of her relationship. The police discovered the poison container inside the family home before the incident. Forensic teams collected samples of the meals and the substance for laboratory testing to verify the poison’s composition. The Civil Police affirmed the girl’s detention, indicating an ongoing investigation into the case.
The unnamed girl was taken to the Civil Police station with legal representation and is subject to the justice system’s proceedings. In a separate incident from last year in Australia, a woman was convicted of triple murder for serving a lethal meal containing death cap mushrooms to her family members. Erin Patterson, the perpetrator, received a severe sentence for the crime that shocked many internationally.
