Parts of the United Kingdom are under advice to remain indoors from 4pm to 6pm today due to Storm Amy. The warning comes as the storm impacts various regions in the UK and Ireland. Met Eireann, the Irish meteorological office, has issued a red weather alert for Co Donegal and Northern Ireland during that time frame.
During an interview on RTE’s News at One, Keith Leonard, the national director of Ireland’s emergency management unit, emphasized the importance of people in Donegal sheltering in place between 4pm and 6pm due to the storm. Leonard highlighted the risk of heavy rainfall and potential tree falls during the storm.
Prior to Storm Amy, yellow weather warnings were already in effect for Scotland and Northern Ireland. The storm is expected to bring high winds and rainfall across the UK over the weekend. As the first named storm of the season approaches from the Atlantic, schools in Northern Ireland have closed early, and ferry services from western Scotland have been disrupted.
Coastal areas may experience heavy rain and winds of up to 100mph on Friday. The stormy conditions are predicted to move southward later in the day, with yellow warnings covering the entire UK, including southern England, for Saturday.
