Prime Minister Keir Starmer commended the swift and professional response of the Greater Manchester Police after reviewing body-worn camera footage of the recent terrorist attack at a synagogue in Manchester. The PM, accompanied by Lady Victoria, met with police officers and expressed his unequivocal appreciation for their high-level performance during the tragic incident.

The attack, carried out by terrorist Jihad Al-Shamie, resulted in the deaths of worshippers Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66. One victim succumbed to gunshot wounds following the intervention of armed police officers on the scene. Starmer lauded the police’s courage and efficiency in handling the unfolding crisis.

Addressing the officers at the Greater Manchester Police headquarters, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity in the face of such heinous acts of terrorism. He underscored the need to combat antisemitism and ensure the safety of the Jewish community, acknowledging the critical role law enforcement plays in averting further tragedy.

Starmer assured the Jewish community of enhanced security measures and a visible police presence to mitigate the persistent threat of hatred and violence. He pledged unwavering support and protection for all members of the community, condemning the rising tide of antisemitism in the country.

The Prime Minister’s visit to Manchester coincided with his urgent return from a European meeting in Denmark to convene an emergency Cobra session in response to the attack. He reiterated the nation’s commitment to standing with the Jewish community and fostering a climate of compassion and solidarity in the aftermath of the tragic event.

In a statement from 10 Downing Street, Starmer extended condolences to the victims’ families and praised the efforts of law enforcement and security personnel in thwarting a potentially greater catastrophe. He affirmed the government’s determination to combat antisemitism and ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
