“Sky Q Shifts Focus to Internet Products as Humax Introduces Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder”

Tech"Sky Q Shifts Focus to Internet Products as Humax Introduces Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder"

Sky Q, a renowned set-top box, is highly praised for its exceptional features, including live TV recording, access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its widespread popularity, Sky is shifting focus towards internet-based products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, signaling a move away from its traditional satellite-powered platform. This transition may create space for a new competitor to emerge for those who prefer physical recordings.

Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder as a new device that closely resembles key features of Sky Q. Equipped with a 2TB built-in hard drive for storing extensive TV content, films, and sporting events, the Aura EZ offers a rare option for physical recordings in the current market.

Apart from aerial-based recordings, the Aura EZ operates on Freely technology, allowing users to stream live TV over broadband. Developed by the creators of Freeview, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand programs, enhancing the device’s versatility and ease of use with regular feature updates.

The Aura EZ boasts features like 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide for easy navigation through current and upcoming shows. Users can conveniently manage the device remotely via the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, enabling them to browse schedules and control recordings from anywhere.

While Freely may not offer the premium sports and movie selection of Sky, it stands out as a free-to-use platform without any subscription charges, providing an attractive alternative for viewers.

Scheduled to launch in the UK in February 2026, the Humax Aura EZ comes with a suggested retail price of £249, presenting a competitive option in the evolving TV recording market.

In a parallel development, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle, combining major streaming services at a reduced monthly rate of £24. This package includes access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max service, offering customers a cost-effective way to enjoy multiple streaming platforms under a single subscription. Subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will also gain access to over 130 premium channels, featuring a diverse range of content including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Additionally, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated directly into the TV guide, enhancing their viewing experience.

The £24 bundle encompasses Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads (starting in March), HBO Max Basic with Ads (launching on March 26), Hayu (available from July, with select content accessible from March), and over 130 Sky channels, offering subscribers a comprehensive entertainment package at an attractive price point.
