“OVO’s £56M Winter Support Initiative Offers Energy-Efficient Aid”

Business"OVO's £56M Winter Support Initiative Offers Energy-Efficient Aid"

OVO launches a £56 million winter support initiative, offering complimentary energy-efficient products to customers in need. The assistance package includes electric blankets, smart sockets, and home efficiency kits. Additional aid from OVO encompasses free energy enhancements like loft insulation, new boilers, or heat pumps. Financial relief options are also available, such as reduced direct debits, emergency credit boosts, and extended repayment schemes.

While OVO’s support services are accessible year-round, applications for enhanced winter aid will open in October. With a track record of providing £190 million in support since 2022 and assisting 42,000 customers last year, OVO remains committed to helping those facing energy-related challenges.

David Buttress, CEO of OVO, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts with charity partners to ensure comprehensive customer support. Acknowledging the temporary nature of current solutions, Buttress advocated for systemic improvements within the energy sector to benefit all consumers equitably.

The Warm Welcome Campaign’s Director, David Barclay, highlighted the significance of creating comfortable and safe spaces where individuals can access necessary support. Through their partnership with OVO, the Warm Welcome Campaign aims to transform locations nationwide into hubs offering practical assistance during the winter months.

Vikki Brownridge, CEO of StepChange debt charity, expressed gratitude for OVO’s ongoing partnership, which aims to alleviate financial burdens associated with energy bills during colder seasons. Anticipating the positive impact of OVO’s Extra Support program in addressing arrears and broader financial challenges, StepChange looks forward to collaborating closely on this crucial initiative.

As energy costs are projected to increase this winter, Ofgem’s price cap is set to raise from £1,720 to £1,755 annually starting October 1. Recent polling conducted by OVO revealed widespread concerns among consumers, with 91% expressing worries about winter bills, representing a 71% increase from the previous year.
