Donald Trump and his supporters have been accused of distorting the tragic incident involving the victim of the Minneapolis shooting, labeling her as a “domestic terrorist.” However, new footage has emerged that challenges this narrative.
Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, had dropped off her six-year-old son at school before encountering a group of ICE agents. She was fatally shot three times and crashed into a parked vehicle on Wednesday. Following the shooting, Trump’s associates launched an offensive, alleging that Good had “weaponized her vehicle.” JD Vance even went as far as calling her death a “tragedy of her own making,” echoing sentiments increasingly seen among Trump’s circle.
Despite efforts by the White House to defend the ICE agent involved in the shooting, bodycam footage from the agent himself tells a different story. The video, released by online platform Alpha News, shows the agent recording Good’s face and license plate on his phone as she calmly responds, “That’s fine, dude. I’m not mad at you.”
Subsequent scenes depict Good moving her car to make way for other vehicles as the ICE agents persist in questioning her. The video reveals a stark contrast between Good’s composed demeanor and the officers’ escalating aggression, demanding her to exit the vehicle.
In a pivotal moment captured by the bodycam, Good turns her steering wheel away from the ICE agent, not towards him. This act is followed by the agent exclaiming “whoa” before firing three shots, leading to Good losing control of her car and crashing into a parked vehicle. The agent is then heard disparagingly referring to her as a “f***ing b**ch.”
This video contradicts the narrative pushed by Trump’s team, which sought to downplay Good’s death and the ensuing protests in a city still reeling from previous tragic events. The global community had expressed outrage following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis in 2020.
Trump has a history of targeting Democratic strongholds like Minneapolis, but the recent video evidence has challenged the rhetoric coming from the President and his allies. During a press conference, JD Vance repeatedly accused the media of misrepresenting the incident, claiming that Good had attempted to run over the ICE agent. Trump also defended the ICE agent, condemning Good’s behavior and justifying the shooting.
Good, originally from Colorado Springs, was known as an award-winning poet and a devout Christian. Her first husband, speaking anonymously to US media, described her as a loving individual who had participated in youth missions in Northern Ireland. Her wife, Rebecca Good, paid an emotional tribute, calling her “pure love” and “pure joy.”
While authorities sought to shield the ICE agent involved, the officer’s own footage has provided conflicting evidence. Good’s loved ones portray her as a caring Christian who valued family, a stark contrast to attempts by certain politicians to diminish the significance of her tragic death.
