Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that team principal Toto Wolff has been supporting former driver Lewis Hamilton during a tough season at Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has been struggling with a below-par car and questionable race tactics.
Hamilton’s challenges were highlighted at the recent Qatar Grand Prix, where he had a disappointing qualifying session and finished outside the points in 12th place. Currently ranked sixth in the drivers’ standings, he risks dropping to seventh after the final race in Abu Dhabi.
Expressing his frustration, Hamilton described the current season as the toughest ever, despite giving his all on and off the track. Recognizing his difficulties, Mercedes has been providing personal assistance. Bradley Lord, Mercedes’ chief communications officer, mentioned that they have been in discussions to help Hamilton navigate this rough patch, even traveling with him to race venues.
In an interview with CHAMP1, Lord emphasized the team’s empathy for Hamilton’s situation and their belief in his ability to bounce back stronger. As Hamilton gears up for the season’s finale in Abu Dhabi, he aims to secure his sixth-place position in the standings, closely pursued by Kimi Antonelli.
This race marks Hamilton’s final outing in the current Ferrari model, known for its challenges. Arthur Leclerc will replace him in the first free practice session. Despite the setbacks, Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, has urged the team to remain focused on regaining their winning form.
With eyes set on finishing the season positively before shifting focus to the next year, Ferrari is determined to overcome their current struggles.
