Driver Jody Jamieson and his horse Fifth and Five emerged victorious in the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer race held in Charlottetown on Saturday evening. Jamieson expressed his disbelief and described the win as a dream come true, emphasizing the race’s prestige compared to previous victories he has achieved.
The Gold Cup and Saucer race, boasting a significant purse of $100,000, attracts participants including trainers, owners, and drivers from various regions of North America to the annual event at the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino. Jamieson, who has been following the race since childhood, recalled his father’s memorable win in 2006 with the 11-to-1 longshot Banner Yankee, which was his favorite until now.
Reflecting on his own triumph, Jamieson highlighted the significance of Fifth and Five’s victory, labeling it as his favorite race of all time. With a winning time of 1:49.4, Fifth and Five, according to Jamieson, possessed all the essential qualities for success on the track, including ideal size, gait, and demeanor.
During the post-race celebrations in the winners’ circle, Jamieson and his team reveled in the moment, describing the win as a realization of his dream. Overwhelmed with emotions, Jamieson expressed uncertainty about ever coming down from the high of the victory, indicating his profound satisfaction with the outcome.
