Heathrow Airport will increase its drop-off charge for the “kiss and fly” service by 16% starting January 1. The current fee of £6 will rise to £7, with a new 10-minute time limit in place. Exceeding the time limit may result in an £80 parking charge notice.
A spokesperson for Heathrow mentioned that this adjustment aligns the airport’s drop-off fee with other major UK airports, aiming to enhance sustainability by reducing congestion, promoting public transport usage, and ensuring proper use of forecourts. Free drop-off and pick-up options are still accessible at all terminals through Park & Ride car parks.
Despite concerns raised by Guy Hobbs, a travel expert from Which?, Heathrow stated that 95% of passengers complete drop-offs within the allotted 10 minutes. The airport introduced the time limit to improve traffic flow and decrease congestion.
Heathrow emphasized that the drop-off fee contributes to their investment plans in bus, rail, and sustainable transport initiatives, encouraging travelers to opt for environmentally friendly travel options.
The airport’s website highlights the convenience of drop-off areas located directly outside each terminal for quick passenger transfers. Payment options include single or pre-paid multiple drop-offs online or by phone before midnight the following day, with no on-site payment facilities available.
Recent reports indicated a 2% revenue increase to £2.7 billion for Heathrow in the first nine months of 2025, driven by long-haul flights and increased usage of premium services, with profits at £1.5 billion. Unlike some UK airports, Heathrow’s drop-off area is solely for drop-offs, while passenger pick-ups are allowed in designated car parks with minimal charges for 30 minutes.
Following a study by the RAC in July, showing a rise in drop-off charges at UK airports, Heathrow’s fee hike is part of a broader trend. Despite the increase, most European airports offer free drop-offs, contrasting with the situation in the UK where fees are on the rise.
