A former University of Kentucky student-athlete, Laken Snelling, is facing serious charges after her newborn baby was found dead in her bedroom. Court documents reveal that Snelling gave birth in the early hours of August 27, claiming she heard the baby whimper and saw some fetal movement. Shockingly, the baby was later discovered in a wardrobe inside a trash bag.
Investigations further revealed that Snelling had searched pregnancy-related topics on her phone and taken photos of herself during labor, some of which were deleted in an attempt to conceal the birth. It is alleged that the baby fell onto the floor after birth, and despite some initial actions, Snelling eventually placed the infant in a rubbish bag.
Snelling’s flatmates reported hearing disturbing noises from her room during the birth, which she later explained away as fainting and falling. Following the birth, Snelling skipped a lecture, ordered food from McDonald’s, and briefly visited a student clinic. However, her flatmates discovered evidence of childbirth in her room, leading to her arrest upon her return.
At a court hearing, Snelling pleaded not guilty to charges of abusing a corpse, tampering with evidence, and concealing the birth. She recently waived her preliminary hearing and is currently out on bail under house arrest.
