A former geography teacher, Anthony Redmond, aged 54, residing on Fort Austin Avenue in Plymouth, has been convicted of engaging in sexual activity with two underage students, including an incident that occurred inside a school storage space. The verdict was reached at Plymouth Crown Court following a thorough investigation by law enforcement.
Redmond faced multiple charges, including five counts of abusing his position of trust by engaging in sexual activities with one minor, two counts with another minor, and one count of indecency with a child. The incidents occurred in various locations such as his residence, school premises, and a hotel, with one specific occurrence taking place in a school cupboard.
During the trial, one of the victims testified that she felt “used and worthless” by Redmond, who was reported to have taken the virginity of both victims. Despite his denial of the charges, the jury unanimously found Redmond guilty on all counts. Following the verdict, his legal representative, Ali Rafiti, requested a pre-sentence report, highlighting Redmond’s previous good conduct.
Judge Robert Linford granted the request for a pre-sentence report and released Redmond on bail until his sentencing scheduled for February 10. The judge commended the jury for their dedication, acknowledging their commitment to the case, which spanned from December through the Christmas and New Year period. He also assured the jury members that they could be excused from future jury duty within the next decade if they wished.
