In a shocking turn of events in the tragic deaths of Spencer Tepe and Monique Tepe, Monique’s ex-husband, Michael McKee, has been arrested and charged with their murders. The couple, aged 39 and 37 respectively, were found dead in their home on December 30, prompting a concerned response from colleagues who discovered the grim scene after Spencer failed to show up for work.
Although the Tepes’ two children were physically unharmed, it was evident that their parents had been brutally killed in their presence. Spencer had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while Monique had been shot at least once in the chest, according to police reports.
Following an investigation ruling out murder-suicide, a “person of interest” was identified through surveillance footage near the Tepes’ residence. On January 10, McKee was apprehended and accused of the double homicide, leaving neighbors stunned by the news.
Detectives traced McKee as a suspect using surveillance in Columbus, Ohio, and located his vehicle in Rockford, Illinois. McKee, who pleaded not guilty in court, was previously married to Monique for nearly two years before their divorce in 2017.
The divorce decree revealed that Monique was granted the divorce due to incompatibility, with McKee receiving their former home in Virginia while Monique resided in Westerville. The couple had no children together, and no spousal support was awarded.
In response to McKee’s arrest, one of his neighbors expressed disbelief, highlighting the shock of realizing someone they knew could be implicated in such a crime. The Tepe family, who gathered for a memorial service, issued a statement expressing gratitude for the progress in the case and seeking justice for Monique and Spencer.
As the investigation continues, the family remains focused on honoring the memory of the slain couple and providing support to the children left behind.
