“Electoral Commission Clears Farage of Election Spending Violations”

Politics"Electoral Commission Clears Farage of Election Spending Violations"

The Electoral Commission has decided not to investigate Nigel Farage’s election spending following a request by the Labour party. Allegations were made that Farage’s campaign in Clacton during the 2024 General Election may have breached electoral law by overspending. However, the Electoral Commission found no evidence of undisclosed spending by Reform UK nationally.

Richard Everett, a former Reform councillor and member of Farage’s campaign team, claimed that expenses on various items in Clacton were not properly reported, potentially exceeding the constituency’s expenditure limit. Essex Police initially looked into the matter but determined they couldn’t investigate due to a time limit constraint.

In response to the allegations, the Electoral Commission stated that they did not find credible evidence of electoral law violations and have closed the inquiry without further action. Farage’s election agent in Clacton, Peter Harris, labeled the complaint as politically motivated and insisted that the process had been followed correctly, dismissing any basis for further accusations.

Reform UK denied any wrongdoing regarding election spending and criticized Everett as a former member who was expelled from the party months earlier.
