Eland Cables, a company specializing in supplying electrical cables for major infrastructure projects, has taken the proactive step of implementing an early pay increase for its employees. The move has been well-received by staff, who believe the additional income will be beneficial as the holiday season approaches.
The Real Living Wage, which is a voluntary minimum wage for workers aged 18 and above, is calculated based on the essential costs of living such as food, clothing, and household bills. Eland Cables has decided to raise the hourly rate to £13.45 an hour, an increase of 6.7%, and to £14.80 an hour in London, a 6.9% rise, surpassing the statutory minimum wage.
The company’s decision to introduce the enhanced wages ahead of schedule is aimed at promoting fairness, loyalty, and long-term success, according to JS Pelland, the executive director of Eland Cables. Employees like Ben, a 34-year-old father-of-two from Doncaster, are appreciative of the early wage hike, citing its positive impact on their general living expenses and preparations for the upcoming festive season.
By prioritizing fair compensation and employee well-being, Eland Cables aims to foster a positive work environment where individuals are motivated, engaged, and committed to delivering quality results. The company’s emphasis on internal promotion and career development has led to improved staff retention, reduced absenteeism, and increased productivity, contributing to its significant growth in turnover over the years. This approach has helped create a sense of belonging and purpose among the workforce, enhancing consistency, quality, and trust within the organization.
