A depraved dentist has been sentenced to a massive prison term for sexually assaulting and mistreating his staff and patients at his dental clinic, even during their treatments.
Joseph Clarence Cox, 44, received a 180-year sentence for his heinous acts, including rape, sodomy, and sexual abuse, as determined by a local jury in January. Deputy District Attorney Carol Griffith disclosed that Cox was arrested in April 2021 following an investigation by the Gadsden Police Department in Alabama. The trial revealed a significant turnover of staff between June 2020 and April 2021 due to Cox’s inappropriate behavior.
Testimonies from eight former employees detailed instances of sexual abuse during office hours, with some reporting incidents of rape and sodomy. Additionally, three former patients testified that Cox engaged in sexual misconduct during their dental procedures.
Following a week-long trial, Cox was convicted of multiple charges, including two counts each of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, and first-degree sexual abuse. Cox had previously admitted to harassment charges in 2012, resulting in a probation sentence and a temporary suspension of his dental license.
Circuit Judge George Day condemned Cox for his disregard for women in his workplace and treating it as his personal playground. Cox was sentenced to 25 years in prison for each count of first-degree rape and sodomy, along with a ten-year state prison term for each charge of first-degree sexual abuse. These sentences are to be served consecutively, totaling 180 years behind bars.
