Upcoming changes will impact certain households, restricting their ability to stream online content. A warning has been issued for BT TV users in the UK, as specific set-top boxes are losing support for the popular Netflix application. The streaming service is enhancing its platform, rendering older hardware incompatible with the updates.
Which devices will be affected by this change?
Two BT TV boxes will no longer support Netflix:
– TV Recordable Box (G4)
– TV Box (Z4)
BT clarified, “Netflix is updating its app to optimize the user experience, leading to incompatibility with these specific boxes.”
As reported initially by Cordbusters, this alteration will come into effect on March 4, 2026. After this date, users with these boxes will lose the ability to stream Netflix content like Drive to Survive, Stranger Things, Seven Dials, and Breaking Bad unless they switch to newer devices.
BT assured that newer models will not encounter the Netflix compatibility issue.
“The remainder of our EE TV Boxes, including the 4K Recordable Box (G5), will continue to support Netflix,” stated the company.
Furthermore, BT confirmed that customers’ Netflix subscriptions will remain unaffected. “Your Netflix subscription will stay the same, and you can still access it on supported devices.”
Users potentially impacted by this change are advised to contact BT to explore upgrading to newer equipment.
For those affected, Netflix can still be accessed on alternative devices such as smart TVs, Fire TV Sticks, gaming consoles, and Apple TV boxes.
