A beloved family-owned art and office supplies store has announced its permanent closure, leaving shoppers heartbroken. Clarkes of Sussex shared the sad news on social media, stating that the time has come to close its Burgess Hill store in West Sussex after over 40 years of operation. Although an exact closing date in April has not been specified, loyal customers have been expressing their sadness over the announcement.

Customers have been sharing their sentiments, with one expressing how much they will miss the store and the joy of visiting it. Another customer described the news as deeply saddening. A third loyal patron praised the store for its years of service and friendly staff, while a fourth person expressed regret over the closure of such a wonderful establishment.

Last year, Clarkes of Sussex shut down its Brighton location after trading for 25 years but still maintains other stores in various Sussex locations, including Haywards Heath. Additionally, Clarkes in Lewes, under different ownership, is set to close in March.

Jay Patel, the owner of Clarkes of Sussex, took to social media to convey the closure of the Burgess Hill store. Patel expressed mixed emotions, highlighting the 40 years of service to the community and the personal journey of 35 years. He thanked customers for their loyalty, kindness, and the meaningful interactions shared over the years, emphasizing the importance of the relationships built.

Despite the store’s closure, Patel expressed gratitude for the support received, acknowledging the impact customers have had on his life. He shared heartfelt sentiments of appreciation, reminiscing on the memories, friendships, and connections formed. Patel concluded by expressing his best wishes for happiness, good health, and success to all customers in the future.
