“Urgent Scam Alert for iPhone and Android Users in UK”

Tech"Urgent Scam Alert for iPhone and Android Users in UK"

An urgent warning has been issued to iPhone and Android users by O2, advising them to be cautious due to a new scam circulating in the UK. The scam involves a deceptive message sent to devices, claiming that users’ SIM cards are at risk of deactivation because they have allegedly not accepted updated Terms and Conditions. The message uses urgent language and appears to originate from an official O2 number, adding to its credibility.

If you are an O2 SIM card holder, it is crucial to be on the lookout for a message stating, “O2UK: IMPORTANT: Your SIM Card(s) will be inactive on 04/06/2026 because you have NOT signed our Terms and Conditions. Logon to sign.” This message includes a link that leads recipients to a fraudulent website aimed at stealing personal information. Scammers may then attempt to breach MyO2 accounts and exploit stolen passwords to access other online accounts.

Customers who receive notifications about their O2 SIM cards expiring should avoid clicking on any embedded links. Instead, they should verify the message’s authenticity by accessing their account through the official O2 website or app or contacting the network directly.

Murray Mackenzie, the Director of Fraud Prevention at Virgin Media O2, highlighted the increasing sophistication of scammers in their tactics. He emphasized the importance of vigilance and encouraged reporting suspicious messages to help combat scams effectively.

To aid customers in staying protected, O2 has shared the following advice:
– O2 does not send texts requesting customers to accept new Terms and Conditions or threatening SIM deactivation. Any such messages are fraudulent.
– Exercise caution with messages containing urgent or threatening language intended to compel immediate action.
– Avoid trusting messages from unknown numbers, as genuine O2 communications typically come from a verified “O2” sender name.
– Refrain from clicking on links in unsolicited texts. Instead, directly access the MyO2 app or call 202 from an O2 phone to verify the legitimacy of requests.
– If you have inadvertently provided login details through a suspicious link, promptly change your password to safeguard your account.
