A 23-year-old man named Alex Warwick faced a crisis when his friend noticed something unusual while ordering takeout. Alex, a medical student at the University of Liverpool, suddenly became ill. This incident unfolded in May last year, as Alex was placing an order and chatting on FaceTime with a friend who detected a speech issue. Upon returning home, Alex informed his housemates about feeling unwell, leading to a rapid deterioration in his condition. Concerned friends and housemates promptly took him to the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

Initially diagnosed with a stroke, Alex was later transferred to Aintree Hospital, where distressing news emerged – he had a brain tumor requiring immediate surgery. Unfortunately, Alex’s response to chemotherapy has been inadequate, prompting his loved ones to seek funds for advanced treatment in Germany.

Hailing from North London, Alex expressed his deepening affection for Liverpool due to the support he received during his illness. He underwent treatment at local facilities like The Walton Centre and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Alex’s parents, who traveled overnight from Weymouth to Liverpool, were informed of the critical situation by his distraught friends.

Facing a diagnosis of a high-grade glioma treated as a glioblastoma, Alex was informed of a challenging prognosis and the necessity for further treatments. Despite significant fundraising efforts by family and friends, financial challenges persist as Alex nears the end of his standard NHS treatment plan, with the tumor showing signs of regrowth. The family is exploring private treatment options, including innovative immunotherapy in Germany, estimated to cost around £200,000.

Alex expressed gratitude for the overwhelming generosity received, emphasizing the importance of contributions towards his treatment. Facing experimental treatment options following the regrowth of his tumor, Alex’s family is urgently seeking alternative solutions. His friend and flatmate, John Johnson, highlighted Alex’s positive impact and the special bond they share, along with the support from Alex’s family.

Completing his master’s degree post-diagnosis, Alex aims to resume his studies in Liverpool later this year, striving to maintain a sense of normalcy amidst the challenges he faces.
