“University student fights back against assailant, endures 67 stab wounds”

National"University student fights back against assailant, endures 67 stab wounds"

A courageous student fought back against her assailant in her residence and endured 67 stab wounds. Xana Kernodle, aged 20, engaged in a struggle with Bryan Kohberger after he intruded into the premises and fatally attacked her flatmates, Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen, both 21 years old. Despite being unarmed, Ms. Kernodle valiantly defended herself and attempted to shield her sleeping boyfriend, Ethan Chapin.

Tragically, Ms. Kernodle, a student at the University of Idaho, sustained 67 stab wounds from the attacker, including injuries to her jugular vein, back, chest, and face. Recent court filings, including the autopsy report, detail the severe harm inflicted on Ms. Kernodle during the assault.

Following Ms. Kernodle’s demise, Kohberger proceeded to murder Mr. Chapin, aged 20, at the off-campus rental property in Moscow, Idaho, on November 13, 2022. Last summer, Kohberger received a life sentence after confessing to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary.

Remarkably, two other roommates survived the horrific incident, thanks to Ms. Kernodle’s bravery. The court was informed that the three fatal victims were attacked while in bed, while Ms. Kernodle was having a meal when she heard the disturbance.

Newly released court documents reveal traces of blood from Ms. Mogen and Ms. Goncalves were discovered in various locations within the residence. Autopsy reports indicated that the two young women did not resist when Kohberger initiated the attacks, suggesting the presence of another individual. Despite being shorter and unarmed, Ms. Kernodle fought back against the assailant.

The autopsy report detailed Ms. Kernodle’s extensive injuries, including multiple stab wounds to different body parts. Despite Kohberger’s assault, Ms. Kernodle displayed signs of resistance, as evidenced by blood on her feet and body. Her injuries included wounds to vital organs, bones, and extensive bruising.
