Boxing star Anthony Joshua has made a return to the gym nearly three weeks after surviving a fatal car crash in Nigeria. The incident, which occurred near Lagos, claimed the lives of two close friends and teammates of the former two-time heavyweight champion, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Joshua, who escaped with minor injuries, recently shared on Snapchat his workout routine, describing it as “mental strength therapy.” The Brit was seen engaging in various exercises, including hitting pads, lower leg workouts, stationary biking, and swimming.
Despite reports suggesting Joshua’s retirement following the crash, the boxer’s future remains uncertain. His uncle mentioned that Joshua had privately informed his family about retiring from boxing, citing emotional strain during his fights. The driver involved in the crash, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with various offenses related to the incident. Reports revealed that Joshua had initially been seated in the front of the vehicle but later moved to the back, narrowly escaping a more severe outcome.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, emphasized the need for Joshua to take time to heal physically and emotionally before deciding on his boxing future. Hearn stressed that only Joshua’s voice would dictate his next steps and expressed support for Joshua during this challenging time. It is expected that Joshua will take the necessary time to recover before contemplating his return to the ring.
