WhatsApp to Introduce Parent-Managed Accounts

TechWhatsApp to Introduce Parent-Managed Accounts

WhatsApp is set to introduce a significant update aimed at providing relief to parents. This upcoming change will empower adults to impose specific controls on devices, preventing pre-teens from accessing certain features or joining group chats without authorization.

Parents or guardians will have the ability to determine who can contact the account, ensuring that unknown individuals cannot initiate conversations abruptly. Moreover, parents can manage the account’s privacy settings and review message requests from unfamiliar contacts.

According to WhatsApp, the platform is a trusted means for families to communicate due to its simplicity, privacy, and reliability. The company stated, “With insights from families and experts, we are launching new parent-managed accounts to enable parents or guardians to establish WhatsApp accounts for pre-teens, with enhanced controls to restrict their usage to messaging and calling.”

To initiate this feature, parents will need to link their family member’s phone with their own device, enabling them to oversee and control the linked accounts. Exclusive access to privacy settings is granted only to parents, ensuring they have the authority to customize their family’s WhatsApp experience.

All personal conversations are safeguarded by end-to-end encryption, guaranteeing privacy and confidentiality, even from WhatsApp itself. The update will be gradually implemented over the next few months, with WhatsApp seeking feedback to enhance the platform’s safety and privacy for family connections.
