“Wisconsin Woman Scammed of $80,000 in Online Romance Con”

National"Wisconsin Woman Scammed of $80,000 in Online Romance Con"

A woman from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, fell victim to a romance scam after being deceived by a man she met online. Cindy Palecek, a 67-year-old pensioner, was charmed by a supposed construction worker who promised her high returns on an investment to help alleviate her financial struggles. Trusting him completely, Cindy invested nearly £60,000 ($80,000) only to discover that the man had disappeared with her money.

Cindy, a retired physical therapy assistant, expressed her shock and distress at being conned by someone she believed to be her partner. She suspects that the man absconded with her funds and left her in a state of despair. Despite reporting the scam to the authorities, Cindy has resorted to working at a supermarket and starting a fundraising campaign to recover her losses.

Recounting her ordeal, Cindy shared how the man convinced her to invest with him, only to vanish when she attempted to withdraw a portion of her investment. Feeling betrayed and devastated, Cindy urged others to be cautious of similar scams and warned against sending money to unknown individuals online.

To support Cindy in her quest to regain her financial stability, donations can be made through her GoFundMe page.
