Business"Study: AI Threatens Job Sectors in 2025"

Fresh research has identified the job sectors most vulnerable to automation by artificial intelligence (AI) in the upcoming year.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) conducted a survey involving more than 2,000 employers to gauge their recruitment, redundancy, and salary strategies for the forthcoming year.

Findings revealed that 17% of employers foresee AI leading to workforce reductions in the next year, with 62% pinpointing clerical, junior managerial, professional, and administrative positions as the most susceptible to displacement.

In the realm of large private sector enterprises, 26% of employers anticipate a downsizing in their workforce, compared to 17% in the private sector and 20% in the public sector.

Among those expecting staff reductions, a quarter (26%) anticipate losing over 10% of their workforce. Additionally, 22% of employers plan to lay off employees in the final three months leading up to December 2025, although 61% have intentions to recruit for new positions.

James Cockett, a senior labor market analyst at the CIPD, emphasized, “AI is revolutionizing work processes, offering tremendous potential for boosting productivity and performance, yet it also carries the risk of leaving many individuals behind.

“Junior roles are most vulnerable to AI impacts, calling for a nationwide initiative to retrain and enhance the skills of individuals at all career stages and ages. Rapid advancement of the Growth and Skills Levy, informed by authentic engagement with employers, is essential to ensure that workers acquire the necessary skills for an AI-driven economy.
