A pub in West Dublin was targeted by a masked gunman last night, but quick-thinking patrons intervened to prevent a potential shooting incident. Gardai swiftly responded to the situation at The 79 Inn in Ballyfermot after receiving reports of an armed man entering the premises. Witnesses say that the gunman was thwarted from firing any shots when he was confronted by patrons who hurled a bar stool at him.
The individual believed to be the intended victim managed to escape unharmed as the brave pub-goers confronted the armed man, who was reportedly wearing a balaclava. The assailant fled the scene as law enforcement rushed to the location.
The incident is said to have stemmed from a verbal altercation earlier in the evening. Gardai confirmed they are investigating the matter at the licensed establishment in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and inquiries are ongoing, according to a statement from a garda spokesperson.
