A man who killed his estranged spouse and desecrated her body has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Zarbab Ali, 29, will spend the remainder of his days behind bars for the brutal murder of Rachael Castillo, 25, with whom he had two children. The tragic incident occurred as Rachael was finalizing her divorce and was alone at her sister’s apartment.
Ali, knowing that Rachael was vulnerable, entered the apartment, turned off the lights, and ambushed her in a dark hallway, fatally stabbing her multiple times. After the heinous act, Ali wrapped Rachael’s body in a blanket, placed it in his vehicle, and transported it to a remote location where he buried her after a failed attempt to conceal the crime scene.
Upon discovering signs of a violent struggle at the apartment, Rachael’s sister called the authorities. Investigation led to the recovery of bloody items and witness statements implicating Ali. Subsequently, Ali returned to the burial site, violated Rachael’s remains, and reburied her before being apprehended by law enforcement.
