“Farage Under Fire for Inaction on Racist Candidate”

Politics"Farage Under Fire for Inaction on Racist Candidate"

Nigel Farage is facing criticism for not taking action against a senior Reform candidate who made a series of “racist and unacceptable” remarks about politicians. Chris Parry, who previously suggested that David Lammy should return to the Caribbean, also raised doubts about the loyalty of eight other minority ethnic figures to the UK. These individuals include Shabana Mahmood, Sadiq Khan, Humza Yousaf, Zarah Sultana, and Anas Sarwar.

Despite being questioned about Parry’s comments on the Deputy PM, two of Farage’s key allies declined to denounce him. Labour chairwoman Anna Turley stated that Farage’s failure to address the issue indicates a tolerance for racism within his party.

A review of Parry’s social media posts by The Guardian revealed derogatory remarks, such as questioning Mahmood’s loyalty based on her religion and suggesting that Yousaf’s allegiance lies elsewhere. Parry also targeted Dawn Butler, Kaukab Stewart, and Naz Shah with inflammatory comments.

Turley emphasized that Farage should have removed Parry from Reform UK and disqualified him as a candidate earlier. She criticized Farage for disregarding racism within the party’s leadership ranks, contrasting it with the public’s expectations of political leaders.

Farage’s deputy, Richard Tice, refrained from condemning Parry’s comments about Lammy, stating that it is part of political discourse. Another Reform MP, Danny Kruger, deferred judgment on Parry’s remarks, leaving the decision to Farage and party leadership.

During an interview on Talk TV, Parry stood by his statements, insisting that the context of his remarks should be considered. He reiterated his belief that as a country’s foreign secretary, primary loyalty should be to that country, prompting further scrutiny of Lammy’s loyalty.

The Mirror has reached out to Reform for a response regarding the controversy.
