Imposter Fined for Naval Officer Charade

UpdatesImposter Fined for Naval Officer Charade

A man impersonating a naval officer at a Remembrance Sunday event in Llandudno was fined £500 by magistrates. Jonathan Carley, 65, confessed to wearing a naval uniform without authorization, claiming he sought a sense of belonging. Carley had added rear admiral rings and purchased medals online to enhance his appearance.

During the event, Carley wore medals for service in Iraq and Syria, mingled with dignitaries, and laid a wreath, garnering attention on social media. When arrested, he cryptically told police, “I’ve been expecting you.” Carley, whose military background was limited to a cadet force role, had falsely boasted of attending prestigious universities and teaching at elite schools.

Public records revealed Carley’s brief commission as a 2nd Lt in the reserves back in 1991. His deceitful claims about his education and professional background, including associations with prominent figures, raised suspicions leading to police scrutiny.
