Family of Palestine Hunger Striker Urgently Appeals for Gov’t Help

PoliticsFamily of Palestine Hunger Striker Urgently Appeals for Gov't Help

The family of a hunger striker in prison is deeply concerned and has urgently appealed to the government for help. Kamran Ahmed, a 28-year-old from London, has been on a 44-day hunger strike to support Palestine. He is currently detained at HMP Pentonville for allegedly breaking into a UK site of an Israel-based defense company.

Ahmed’s health deteriorated significantly during his hunger strike, leading to his hospitalization. Despite facing critical health issues, he remains resolute in his cause, willing to sacrifice his life. Palestine Action has notified Justice Secretary David Lammy of their intention to take legal action due to the government’s alleged negligence of prison safety policies.

In response, the Ministry of Justice has refuted these claims, emphasizing the importance of prisoner well-being and rejecting any incentives for hunger strikes. Kamran’s family, particularly his sister Shahmina Alam, has been vocal in urging government officials to intervene and address the hunger strikers’ demands for transparency and justice.

The situation has stirred controversy, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer asserting that protocols are being followed, while Lord Timpson, the Prisons minister, reassured that prisoner safety is a priority. Despite concerns raised by the hunger strikers and their families, the government maintains its position on legal matters and the independence of the judiciary system.

As Kamran’s health continues to decline, his family anxiously awaits updates on his condition, expressing fears and frustrations over the lack of information. The ongoing hunger strike has sparked debates on government intervention and support for the protesters risking their lives for their cause.
