A social media user named Caroline raised awareness about this scam through a video shared on TikTok, cautioning individuals against falling for the “terrifying” ploy that could grant hackers remote access to their data.
Detailing the scam’s operation, Caroline explained that victims receive a seemingly authentic message appearing to be from WhatsApp, prompting them to secure their account or respond to a code request. By unknowingly forwarding the code as instructed, users inadvertently link their WhatsApp account to the scammer’s device.
Granting a stranger access to your WhatsApp account allows them to view messages, photos, and send messages on your behalf, potentially deceiving others in your contact list and perpetuating the scam. Furthermore, the pairing scam does not disrupt your account access, making it difficult to detect any compromise.
