“Embarrassment at Conservative conference over Thatcher’s legacy”

Updates"Embarrassment at Conservative conference over Thatcher's legacy"

During a Conservative Party conference in Manchester commemorating Margaret Thatcher’s 100th birthday, Esther McVey, a Tory MP, faced embarrassment after discussing what Thatcher would do to address current issues, only to realize that the Conservative Party had been in power for 14 years without implementing those actions.

McVey, formerly known as Rishi Sunak’s minister for common sense, criticized Labour’s GB Energy and quangos, suggesting that Thatcher would have swiftly addressed the power imbalance caused by these organizations. She acknowledged the Conservative Party’s failure to take action over their long reign in power.

Robert Colvile, the panel host and director of the Centre for Policy Studies think-tank, humorously echoed McVey’s oversight, prompting laughter from the audience. McVey attempted to recover by emphasizing the need for alignment between politicians and the public.

Meanwhile, Labour criticized Kemi Badenoch, Conservative Party Leader, for not apologizing for her party’s mistakes during their 14-year tenure in power. Labour emphasized their commitment to national renewal and outlined their focus on driving growth, securing borders, and improving the welfare of working people.
