The mother of a two-year-old boy who was fatally attacked by dogs described the heartbreaking and traumatic scene she encountered upon returning home from work. Kaimir Jones was discovered lifeless in Stacy Wheeler Cobb’s backyard on Saturday, October 4th, around 3:45 pm, as reported by the authorities.
Adrianna Jones, Kaimir’s mother, shared that her instinct prompted her to leave work early and check on her son after not hearing from the babysitter for an extended period, according to details on GoFundMe. Witnessing the tragic sight, she expressed the immense sorrow and shock of finding her child in such a state.
The babysitter, based in Georgia, was taken into custody for allegedly operating an unlicensed daycare where her Rottweilers fatally attacked the toddler while she was asleep, as per the New York Post. Despite being highly recommended, Cobb failed to prevent the child from wandering out of the house and unintentionally unlocking the kennel housing the dogs.
Authorities stated that Kaimir was under Cobb’s supervision as the only child present that day, although the unlicensed daycare typically accommodated up to 10 children simultaneously. Cobb claimed she believed the child was safe while she napped for over two hours.
VPD Chief Leslie Manahan expressed condolences to the grieving family, condemning the tragic incident and emphasizing the negligence that led to the child’s death. Cobb faced charges of second-degree murder and child cruelty, with the dogs involved handed over to Lowndes County Animal Control.
Experts in animal behavior emphasized the importance of not leaving children alone with unfamiliar dogs and educating children to avoid approaching unknown dogs to prevent such tragedies.
