“York Race Delayed After Jockeys Injured”

Sports"York Race Delayed After Jockeys Injured"

A major race at York faced a delay on Sunday following a serious incident during the event.

Jockeys Jim Crowley and Trevor Whelan required on-track medical attention after a fall disrupted the racing proceedings.

Both jockeys were conscious as they were subsequently taken to a hospital in Leeds for further evaluation.

The horses involved in the incident, Almeraq and Tiger Bay, seemed unharmed and walked away from the incident at Knavesmire.

Almeraq, ridden by Crowley, was the favorite in the 4.30 race, the Sky Bet Starman Garrowby Stakes, when a mishap caused a fall close to the finish line.

Trained by William Haggas, Almeraq brought down Tiger Bay, ridden by Whelan, in the unfortunate incident.

The ongoing Sky Bet Sunday Series meeting is being broadcast live on ITV4.

ITV presenter Oli Bell informed viewers: “Both jockeys are conscious and are being taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment.

“Reports suggest they have sustained leg injuries, but they are in contact with the medical team. This is positive news.

“There was a tense atmosphere at York for the last 15 minutes, but this update is reassuring.

“Our thoughts are with Jim and Trevor during this time.”

The subsequent race scheduled for 5.00 faced an approximate 30-minute delay before racing resumed.
