Stepping in for Lewis Hamilton, who departed for Ferrari, Antonelli continued to demonstrate promise with consecutive sixth-place finishes in China and Japan. Notably, he claimed pole position at the Miami sprint and achieved his first podium at the Canadian Grand Prix.
However, Antonelli’s performance has declined in recent months during the European season, partly due to the increased difficulty in driving the Mercedes car after upgrades. Despite securing points by finishing ninth at Monza, team principal Toto Wolff expressed disappointment with Antonelli’s race pace.
