Ricky Hatton’s son, Campbell, expressed the family’s ongoing struggle to cope with the sudden passing of his father, which has left them devastated. The renowned boxing icon was discovered deceased in his residence in Manchester on September 14.
The unexpected death of Hatton at 46 shocked the boxing community, leading to an outpouring of emotions and tributes. Although the cause of death remains undisclosed, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his passing, and a funeral is scheduled for October 10.
Following in his father’s footsteps, 24-year-old Campbell pursued a career as a professional boxer and shared a close bond with him. Despite finding solace in the overwhelming support and tributes to ‘The Hitman’ from the public, Campbell acknowledged the profound grief they are experiencing.
Campbell conveyed their deep sorrow, stating, “We are absolutely heartbroken – it was so unexpected… We had so many plans coming up, so it has knocked us for six, but obviously we are trying to be there for each other.” He appreciated the tremendous support they have received but reiterated their profound sadness.
A funeral procession honoring Hatton will commence from Gee Cross, his residence, passing through Hyde towards Manchester Cathedral, concluding at the Etihad Stadium, the home of his beloved Manchester City FC. The memorial service, to be held at Manchester Cathedral, will require tickets, yet the family encourages as many people as possible to line the streets to show their support.
Campbell emphasized, “That’s exactly what he would have wanted.” Describing his father as proudest of his fanbase, Campbell highlighted Hatton’s desire for the streets to be filled with supporters, reflecting his dedication to his fans.
Campbell, who bears a striking resemblance to his father, shared their profound connection, reminiscing, “He used to call me his little Mini-Me. We were identical in so many ways, and I think it’s shown through how close we were and the banter we had with each other.”
In a poignant social media tribute following Hatton’s passing, Campbell posted photos of them together, expressing his deep admiration and love for his father. The heartfelt message conveyed his immense loss and cherished memories of their time together.
