Canada’s national police force announced on Monday that a 51-year-old man from Montreal has been arrested for allegedly threatening Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier faces charges of making threats to cause death or bodily harm, according to a press release from the RCMP. The threats were reportedly communicated via email to multiple recipients, which included a senator, as stated in the official communication.

In addition to the threats against the Prime Minister, Porlier is accused of making threats against “all Canadian police officers,” as indicated in the legal documents. Authorities confirmed that Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and mischief for setting fire to a church in Toronto in 2017, and was serving probation for those offenses.

The arrested individual, Marc-André Porlier, made a court appearance on Saturday, as detailed in the press release. It is important to note that the charges against him have not yet been proven in court.
