In a town in China called Gangkou, a lorry has struck pedestrians multiple times, accompanied by the sound of gunshots and the presence of emergency services.
Witnesses reported that the driver of the lorry deliberately hit people and gunshots were also heard during the incident. Videos circulating online depict a white van driving recklessly, crashing into other vehicles while driving on the wrong side of the road.
One video shows the van reversing after hitting a person on the ground, then moving forward to hit the individual again. Additionally, an emergency services vehicle with flashing lights is seen in the footage. Shouting and screaming can be heard in reaction to the lorry driver’s actions.
Another video shows the van being blocked by police cars, attempting to escape while being surrounded by people hitting its windows. Eventually, the crowd manages to break into the van and pull the driver out.
Although there are numerous social media reports about the incident, the police have not issued an official statement. It is alleged that the lorry driver tried to break through a barricade, prompting police to fire at the vehicle in an effort to stop it. As the driver attempted to flee, the lorry struck pedestrians, including someone riding an electric bike.
Gangkou, located in Guangdong province, is a bustling urban area in southern China known for its port-related commerce. Many individuals on social media have expressed outrage toward the lorry driver, some referencing a tragic incident in Zhuhai where 38 people were killed and 48 injured by a motorist driving into a crowd at a sports center in November 2024.
During the Zhuhai incident, witnesses described a chaotic scene outside the sports center as injured individuals received aid before emergency services arrived. The police stated that a car had struck pedestrians at the sports center in Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai City and fled the scene. The driver, later identified as Fan Weiqiu, was reportedly dissatisfied with a divorce settlement and had attempted suicide with a knife.
