Sports"15-Year-Old Darting Prodigy Makes History at WDF Championship"

A young darting prodigy, Mitchell Lawrie, born in 2010, has impressed spectators at the WDF World Championship held at Lakeside. Lawrie, aged 15, broke records by becoming the youngest player to triumph at Lakeside after defeating Tomoya Maruyama from Japan. In another remarkable performance, Lawrie defeated Jason Brandon 3-0, showcasing his skill with five maximums and impressive checkouts. Lawrie’s exceptional performance also earned him the highest average score of 97.21 at the tournament.

Luke Littler, reacting to Lawrie’s success on the WDF Darts Instagram account, expressed his admiration by stating, “This kid is a joke.” Lawrie, filled with pride, shared his excitement after defeating Brandon and advancing to the next round, stating, “I’m absolutely buzzing with myself.”

Lawrie’s swift start in the first set, finishing each leg in under 15 darts, demonstrated his talent. Although he missed out on a potential nine-dart finish, Lawrie managed a superb 134 checkout. Despite a momentary lapse as Brandon surged, Lawrie refocused to secure victory. Lawrie acknowledged the crowd’s support, crediting them for energizing his performance.

As Lawrie pushed towards victory, he faced a brief challenge from Brandon, prompting Lawrie to elevate his game and secure the win. Lawrie confessed to a slight lapse in concentration during the final set but regained focus to clinch the match.

When questioned about any nerves during his final darts, Lawrie attributed his miss to a distraction from a spectator but praised the overall support from the crowd. Fans can anticipate the upcoming PDC World Darts Championship starting on December 11, with exclusive live coverage available through Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
